Winning Velcro Training Boxing Gloves 16oz (Blue)

Winning is one of the top brands of gloves in the world. Boxers from all countries and weight classes regularly swear by the brand. This trend is only strengthened in the training glove market where Winning provides arguably the best value. These gloves offer some of the best protection for both the boxer and the partner if sparring. Moreover, they can take a beating without showing any signs of wear for years. The high-quality stitching ensures of that. Winning training gloves also offer a great sizing fit for most boxers, though those with larger hands may find them a bit tight.

Cleto Reyes Professional Training Gloves

Outside of Winning, Cleto Reyes is likely the next most popular brand of gloves and make it a point to fill a niche at the other end of the spectrum. Whereas Winning gloves make it a point to protect the boxer, Cleto Reyes is all about delivering the maximum force through the punch. In that regard, these may not be the best training boxing gloves, depending on your needs. That said, they are exceptionally durable, though it takes a bit to break in the leather. Moreover, where the Winning gloves might run a bit small, the Cleto Reyes run a bit large.

As mentioned earlier, the Cleto Reyes brand sells out the padding a bit to provide the most power they can. In a professional fight, this is generally more important than in a training situation. As such, the Cleto Reyes fight gloves are the perfect match for a heavyweight fighter or one who intends to win with a KO. These gloves also provide one of the best fits we saw, though they do still have a tendency to run a tad on the large side. The leather outer also still takes a while to break in, but the double stitched construction ensures they will last as long as you do.

Winning Professional Gloves

As good as the Winning training gloves are for their purpose, the Winning fight gloves are a bit more particular. Becuase the Winning brand favors protecting the boxer’s hands, these gloves will not deliver the maximum amount of power. Of course, this is less of a problem for a defensive fighter–outside of counter-punchers of course. The combination of leather, foam, and horsehair ensure that this glove can deliver and take plenty of punishment without missing a beat. That said, these gloves do not offer as much wrist support as many others we reviewed and run a bit tight around the fingers.

Ringside Cleto Reyes Safetec Professional Fight Gloves

Ringside and Cleto Reyes teamed up to provide a glove that can do it all. Whether you are in the gym training or in the ring fighting, the Safetecs are made to accommodate any situation. The Safetec foam offers plenty of protection and durability without adding too much cushion and stealing some of your punching force. That said, these gloves do skew a bit more for fighting than they do for training as their padding, while firm and durable, is not designed for hours of practice. The wrist support on these gloves could also be better, but they do at least provide a good fit for all sized hands.

EVERLAST POWERSHOT HEAVY BAG

While Everlast has a decent reputation in the Fighting market, it is arguably their training supplies that are the better-made products. In this vein, the Powershot heavy bag provides a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stale product. The Powershot provides a variety of targets to help the boxer hone their targeting on a heavy bag. These targets offer additional padding, so your hands do not get sore or tire out over time. That said, the rest of the filling in the bag is some of the firmer we saw using shredded rubber. This bag also only comes in a 100-pound model. While this is generally plenty for most, the heaviest hitters may want a bag that is a bit heavier. Still, this is an excellent bag to help build balance and health.

Century Original Wavemaster

Not everyone has the room to fit a hanging heavy bag in their training area. That is where the freestanding heavy bag comes into play. This bag is far more easy to set up and requires far less room to use. Moreover, the Century bag can adjust the height from 4’ to almost 6’ in 3” increments. Also, this is one of the easier bags to transport or move if needed. Of course, if you need a heavy bag with some sway action, this is not the bag for you. On top of that, heavy hitters may actually cause too much strain and bend the plastic bag support. Finally, despite the name, you should fill this bag with sand, not water, or else you will find it moves when hit hard.

Ringside Angle 65 lb Bag

If you already have a heavy bag, all other bags should be purchased with a specific purpose in mind. While the angled bag may look similar to a heavy bag, its unique shape makes better for practicing hooks and uppercuts than it does for straight jabs. This fact is further made apparent by the Ringside Angle due to the vinyl outer shell which is not as durable as leather. On the other hand, the vinyl shell is not terrible, and it does make cleaning up afterward much easier–especially since it is waterproof. The bag is a bit on the shorter end which may limit some of its general training effectiveness, and it only comes in a 65-pound weight which is not really heavy enough for general training.

Balazs Lazer Bag

Outside of the heavy bag, the next most important bag is the speed bag. This bag will help you develop your punching quickness while training a rhythm into your muscle memory and increase your fitness. The Balazs Lazer is easily the best all-around speed bag we saw sporting a durable all-leather outer that does not rely on laces or welting. This allows it to keep its shape and extends its durability further. The only real issue with the Balazs is its bladder. The latex bladder is not exactly the most durable, though it will not likely pop. Instead, the bladder leaks air more than some and will require being reinflated once every two weeks or so. This bag is also a bit heavier than some which may take getting used to.

The final type of bag in the training regimen is the maize bag. This bag is designed to provide many of the benefits of a speed bag, angled heavy bag, and even double ended bag. The RDX offers a good mix of features including 2” of padding for additional hand protection. Moreover, the top zipper allows you to fill the bag to the top without issue. Unfortunately, the durability of the RDX is a bit give-and-take. The stitching of the bag is excellent and will not wear down, but the polyethylene outer is not nearly as durable as leather would be. Also, while it can be hung by a chain, you are better served to replace the one that comes with the bag.

RDX Hook & Jab Pads

The RDX focus pads are excellent for beginner and mid-level training, though they may not be ideal for advanced boxer training. One of the better qualities about the RDX is the inclusion of three different types of padding to help protect your hands from harder hits. The mesh backing keeps your hands dry, while the finger grips are some of the better that we saw. That said, these focus pads are not the most durable due to a vinyl cover and will not stand up to professional training. Another knock against their use for professional training is their weight which runs a bit heavy, slowing down your reaction time.

Meister Cowhide Leather Curved Focus Mitts

Like some of the other brands on our list, Meister has earned a better reputation in the training products for boxers rather than the fighting products. When looking at their focus mitts, Meister offers some of the better professional options available. These mitts are made out of cowhide leather and can take a continuous beating. They are also among the lightest focus mitts we saw and also provide some of the best wrist support. However, the wearer will have to contend with their hands getting hot and sweaty, and the padding is not nearly as thick as with some other mitts.

RDX Cowhide Leather Hook & Jab Pads

The second RDX focus mitts we saw aims to alleviate many of the potential issues of the previous pair that made those ones a bit unsuitable for professional training use. For instance, these focus mitts are tied for the lightest that we reviewed. They also trade out the vinyl outer for more durable cowhide to take a tougher beating. That said, these mitts do not fit quite as well as the other RDX’s though they do still provide plenty of ventilation. Moreover, both pairs of RDX focus mitts are a bit large–which is fine for less experienced boxers but not ideal for refining target accuracy.

Platinum GelTech Catch-N-Feed Micro Punch Mitt

Platinum may not have the same name brand recognition in the fighting market as many of the other brands on our list, but they do provide some distinct advantages over many of the more modern constructions. For one, these mitts have a somewhat small profile which makes them great for refining target practice. On top of that, their durable leather construction is also forgiving to bare-handed training. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the trainer’s hands who will have to deal with the least amount of padding that we saw. These mitts are also heavier than most and not nearly as curved.

Sanabul is a brand that aims to provide a professional grade of quality at a much lower cost than many of the other top brands we reviewed. With their focus mitts, Sanabul achieves this with a combination of strength and quickness. These mitts are made out of durable leather, but they are also the lightest mitts we found. While the Sanabul mitts fit fairly well, they do not feature any of the more advanced mesh seen on other and will cause hot sweaty hands. These mitts are also lagging a bit in design as they do not offer a great curve and their padding is a bit substandard.

adidas Box Hog 2 Men’s Boots

Adidas has a long history manufacturing some of the best shoes for a variety of sports, but they really seem to excel when that sport favors maneuverability over stability. That choice often depends on what kind of boxer you are. As such, these shoes are generally better suited for lighter boxers who rely on movement and maneuverability over power. The gum rubber sole on these shoes is the best we saw, offering excellent traction when needed but just as comfortable sliding when you need to more. They are also exceptionally breathable, but they do not provide significant ankle support.

Reebok Men’s Boot-Buck Sneaker

While Reebok may often lag behind many of its other sports footwear competitors, they struck gold with their boxer’s boot. Worn by Floyd Mayweather, the Reebok is great if you are looking for added stability. These shoes provide some of the best ankle support we saw while providing a solid fit and reasonable cushion. However, they are generally not the best for mobility–which makes Mayweather’s choice of them a bit more surprising. The rubber outer sole is not ideal, though it is not bad. The main issue comes with their weight. These are some of the heaviest shoes we saw.

Cleto Reyes Leather Lace Up High Top Shoes

Some boxers might say they prefer to trust a dedicated shoe manufacturer for their shoe needs, but Cleto Reyes is a boxer’s brand. As such, they make it a point to tailor their products specifically to a boxer’s needs–including their footwear. One thing that sets this pair of shoes apart from the rest is that they are made out of durable leather. Of course, being leather, that means it will take a while for them to break in. However, once you do break them in, the leather will form around your foot and fit like a glove. Even better, the zipper allows you to keep the fit without untying the laced. Unfortunately, being leather these are also the least breathable pair of shoes we saw.

ADIDAS Boxfit 3 Adult Boot

The Adidas Boxfit 3 is the low-top alternative to their high-top Box Hog 2s. Low-top boxer’s shoes are not generally favored and are more often used for training and fitness than an actual fight. In this regard, the Boxfits fit that mold perfectly. The low-top obviously does not provide for the best ankle support, but the inner sole offers some of the best cushioning for longer workouts. The outer sole is okay but is not ideal for fight conditions where the mat may slide too much. That said, they are exceptionally light and will provide some of the best mobility–even if the fit could be a bit tighter.

 RIVAL BOOTS

Rival is a brand that generally hovers in the mid to upper-mid tier range. While they may not be seen as premiere, they offer plenty of value in terms of price to quality ratios. These boots are probably best suited to an amateur who needs to double up their fighting and training shoes. This is because the Rivals have a decent outer sole, but they do not feature the specialized pivot tread. On the other hand, they are exceptionally breathable–great for long training sessions–but they are also not the most durable. Finally, they offer solid ankle support, but their mid-top design does not restrict mobility.

Meister Adult 180″ Semi-Elastic Hand Wrap

When it comes to hand wraps, people often have somewhat unrealistic expectations for them. That said, the Meisters actually perform fairly well, though they do come with a few annoying flaws. One of the oddest faults of these wraps is the fact that they will often dye your hands after extended use. One thing of note, if you prefer exceptionally stretchy hand wraps, these are not for you. Instead, Meister aims to balance the stretchiness and the durability. Though they are actually one of the more durable hand wraps we saw, and their oversized hook offers a fairly tight fit.

Ringside Mexican Style Hand Wraps

When it comes to hand wraps, people will quite often prefer the Mexican style. This style is noted for being a bit more elastic than the standard style which uses cotton. These Ringside hand wraps are more elastic than some of the others on our list, but you will not receive the same kind of elasticity that you may be expecting. Moreover, these hand wraps are not exceptionally durable, nor is their velcro the best. In fact, these hand wraps are designed for protection more than anything else. They offer a robust amount of padding and provide some of the best wrist support we saw.

PRO IMPACT Handwraps

If you are looking for a Mexican style of hand wraps that provide the expected elasticity, then these are the hand wraps for you. On top of being stretchier than most, these hand wraps also provide plenty of protection. Their padding is reasonably good, but their wrist support is the best that we saw. That said, the elastic in these hand wraps have a tendency to tangle fairly easily–especially if simply balled up and thrown in your training bag. One odd issue with these wraps is that they actually run a bit shorter than most–generally about 36” shorter. Also, they are somewhat bulky when compared to other wraps.

TITLE Mexican Style Hand Wraps

Title is one of the heavy-hitters in the boxer’s equipment market, generally hovering around the upper-mid tiers. In terms of these hand wraps, that designation perfectly applies as they do most things reasonably well but few better than any other brand. For instance, the padding and wrist support for these wraps is best described as adequate. That said, these are great if you just want to purchase and forget, since they are by far the most durable wraps we found. Of course, that is a bit misgiving since the elastic of these Mexican style wraps is known to loosen somewhat quickly. Still, they are fairly comfortable, and the “this side down” tags makes putting them on a breeze.

Venum Hand Wraps

Venum is a brand that can be hit or miss. Sometimes, their products are every bit as good as a top-tier brand, while other times you are better served simply spending more. With these wraps, you are essentially paying for the feel with the expectation that you will likely have to replace them fairly quickly. The stitching will come undone and the elastic will loosen after moderate use. That said, they offer a good level of padding to protect your knuckles and nice stiffness to support your wrist. While these hand wraps do run a bit on the thin side, they still offer a nice fit and will remain wrapped tightly while you use them.
